Open Day at MGIMO’s Gorchyakov Lyceum
March 16, an Open Doors Day was held at the #MGIMO Lyceum, which brought together a large
number of prospective students, their parents, the administration and the teaching staff of the
Lyceum.
The guests had the opportunity to communicate with the Director of the Lyceum and the teachers, to
learn about the educational process and the campus facilities.
The event started off with an address by the Roman I. Kotov, Director of the Gorchyakov Lyceum,
who
spoke about the history of the Lyceum and its place in the structure of MGIMO University.
He emphasized a student-centered approach to education that the Lyceum promotes, developing an
individual educational trajectory for students in accordance with their goals.
Roman Kotov elaborated on the program of early professionalization, which allows Lyceum students
to
visit international organizations, meet with diplomats, participate in educational trips abroad, and
take
an active part in joint activities that are made possible by the Lyceum’s cooperation with the leading
Russian schools members of the League of New Schools and the MGIMO Lyceum Network.
The participants were introduced to the statistics of the enrollment of the previous years:
90% of the students who left the Lyceum in 2017 and 82% of those who left it in 2018 were admitted
to
MGIMO, the others entered leading universities, such as Moscow State University, High School of
Economics etc.
Members of the teaching staff of the Lyceum spoke about what they do to prepare students for
examinations, in particular, the Unified State Exam, MGIMO entrance tests; they
also talked about the active participation of Lyceum students in Olympiad competitions for
schoolchildren.
Lyceum tutor and world volleyball champion A.A. Artamonova told the participants about
academic and sports competitions at the Lyceum and what is done to enhance students’ motivation.
For guests who arrived early, there was a tour of the campus given by Anna Artamonova during
which
the guests could appreciate the living conditions of the Lyceum students residing on campus and
visit
the sports center, which the Odintsovo campus takes pride in.
One of the highlights of the event was the talk given by Lyceum students who fascinated the guests
when they spoke about their studies and plans to enroll at MGIMO faculties and schools.
Lyceum students Maria Rai and Sofia Agapeieva played a few pieces on the piano to entertain the
guests.
The Open Day ended with informal communication between guests, teachers and representatives of
the
administration, during which prospective students and their parents were able to ask
questions.
