Scientific and practical conference “LANGUAGE. CULTURE. TRANSLATION” to be held February 20, 2019
The conference will be attended by Mark Y. Blokh, Professor Emeritus of Moscow State Pedagogical University, a doctor of linguistics, Professor, Chairman of the Thesis Committee on German and Roman Languages, head of the Department of English Grammar, - of the Institute of Foreign Languages; Sergei. D. Shelov, The Vinogradov Russian Language Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, leading researcher, doctor of linguistics; Tatiana D. Chetverikova, The Vinogradov Russian Language Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, leading researcher, a doctor of linguistics; Lyudmila G. Vedenina, #MGIMO University, senior researcher, professor of the French Language Department and others.
The #conference will include six sections, three round tables and several workshops on the following topics:
• Terminology and Languages for Special Purposes;
• #Linguistics and cross-cultural communication;
• The current issues of Translation Studies and translation practice;
• Modern literary studies: theoretical and applied problems;
• Teaching foreign languages;
• Cognitive #language studies.
The organizing committee received more than 45 applications from leading research institutes and universities in #Moscow, Kursk, Perm, Vladivostok.
In addition, during the conference a meeting of professor Lyudmila G. Vedenina with teachers of foreign languages will take place in the hall of the campus library. Lyudmila Vedenina will present the books from her private collection, - donated to the library of the MGIMO Campus at Odintsovo and the Department of Linguistics and Cross-Cultural #Communication.
A workshop will be given for the students of linguistics on the topic - “The use of videofilms in teaching interpretation” during the break-out session on translation and interpreting.
Round tables will be held, in particular - “Relevant processes in the modern #Russian language”, “A discursive approach to policy analysis”, “How can political scientists and linguists find common ground?” and “The role of motivation in teaching a foreign language” (the session “Methods of teaching #foreign languages”).
Registration of participants opens February 20, 2019 from 10.30 in the hall of the second floor. The plenary session begins at 11.00. Breakout sessions, workshops and round tables start at 14.00.
