Посол Мальты в России H.E. PIERRE CLIVE AGIUS проведет семинар « Historical Relations between Malta and Russia».
Often it is thought that the relations between Malta and Russia were initiated during the Soviet Union. In reality, however, these relations can be traced back to Peter the Great who sent his Ambassador to Malta. The relations were indeed very strong and saw the participation of Maltese sea servicemen on the side of Russia in important conflicts. Among them was the important battle of Chesma where the Maltese fought for Empress Katherine II of Russia. Later on Malta was supposed to pass under the protection of Paul I but destiny had other plans.
